A Muzungu's Life: the difference between the States and Africa

Hi again! well i will share a bit about the differences of here and the states, burundi i must say, is nothing like America. If a burundian see's you on the street they will automatically say "MUZUNGU!!" and stare at you till you leave. I am used to it but i still get annoyed and sometimes just stare back till he leaves. shopping is also an experience. I don't shop but i am sometimes with my mom when she shops. the fruit and flower guys come and stick everything at you, in your windows, at the windshield and sometimes they just drop in your lap and start saying prices. once you find something you want you have to barter. Bartering is a tough job and you have to push the prices down until you get what you want, or sometimes just casually walk away till they say " OK, give money" and it works! there are no malls here but there is a big market with food, clothes and many random things to buy. only the main roads are paved so it is sometimes tough getting around in a car. although it is fun to ride my bike because it is hilly and bumpy. i miss a lot of the food in the states that you can't get here such as kiwi's or dairy queen blizzards, good steaks and alot more. it is always hot here and occasionaly rains. it is very beautiful in the country side and the lake. we have a spectacular view from our front porch of the lake and the mountains behind it. the sunset is amazing when its just behing the mountains an reflects on the water. whoever reads this really needs to come to Burundi. thanks for reading! by the way, when you come bring lots of candy and good stuff!

My life here

hello all! life here in africa goes good. it is hot and humid so i guess i'll take a swim, but the pool is closed so........watch TV.......no, power is out so i guess i'll take a shower, but wait, there is no water! yep, This Is Africa! im not trying to be pessimistic. Africa is a real life changing experience, it is alot different from the states though, which is probably good. i still miss my extended family in the states too. I have a really cool friend here named Ben and i hang out with him alot. he has a pool thankfully. i am doing homeschooling right now because i am going to RVA this year in September and i need to prepare. I can't wait to go even though i will miss my parents. and i am not lacking good food here because my mom can cook anything from scratch. my other good pal here is Sara who is 28 and she comes to our house for lunch and dinner, che is really cool. i am playing guitar here and lovin' it! it is really fun and i get lessons from a cool british guy named simon. Well thats all so far! email me!
